Tanker Attacks in the Middle East Gulf: Vanguard Tech Intelligence Featured in Riviera Maritime Media
Vanguard in the Media | 8 October 2026
Recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Middle East Gulf and Strait of Hormuz continue to raise serious concerns for maritime security, vessel operations and crew safety.
In its latest report, Riviera Maritime Media examines an attack on the tanker Acers north of Qatar, alongside reports of a separate suspected vessel fire near Fujairah. The article also highlights the growing number of incidents affecting crude oil tankers, LNG carriers and LPG carriers across the region, drawing on maritime intelligence and incident reporting from Vanguard Tech.
Tanker attack north of Qatar
On 7 October 2026, the Antigua and Barbuda-flagged tanker Acers was reportedly struck by multiple projectiles approximately 51 nautical miles north of Qatar.
Vanguard Tech identified the vessel as the 51,400-DWT MR2 tanker Acers. According to the reporting, the incident resulted in an onboard fire, which was subsequently extinguished by the crew, with multiple casualties reported.
A separate possible vessel fire was also reported approximately 30–32 nautical miles east of Fujairah in the Gulf of Oman. The vessel's identity and the circumstances surrounding that incident had not been confirmed at the time of publication.
An expanding threat to commercial shipping
The incidents follow a series of attacks on commercial vessels operating in and around the Strait of Hormuz.
Riviera Maritime Media's report references Vanguard Tech's intelligence relating to several vessels, including:
Acers: Vanguard Tech identified the tanker involved in the reported attack north of Qatar.
Maran Gas Mystras: Vanguard identified the LNG carrier and reported an engine-room fire following a strike on 5 October.
On Peace: Vanguard cited confirmation from India's Ministry of External Affairs that 12 of the vessel's 19 crew members had been injured.
Ghana Prosperity: Vanguard reported a projectile strike on the Liberia-flagged crude oil tanker on 3 October.
Gas Vela and Cameroon Prosperity: Vanguard reported further attacks involving an LPG carrier and crude oil tanker on 4 October.
The increasing frequency of incidents, together with attacks occurring beyond the immediate Strait of Hormuz, highlights the changing security environment facing international shipping.
Why timely maritime intelligence matters
For shipowners, vessel operators, charterers and marine insurers, developments across the Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz and Gulf of Oman present significant operational and security challenges.
Accurate maritime intelligence, ongoing threat monitoring and informed voyage risk assessments are essential to understanding the changing situation and supporting decisions about vessel movements, crew safety and operational exposure.
Vanguard Tech continues to monitor maritime security developments across the region, providing intelligence and risk analysis to support the maritime industry's understanding of emerging threats.
